Cost guide · 2026

What countertops really cost.

A typical kitchen runs $3,000–$5,000 installed – but the honest answer is “it depends.” Here’s what moves the number, so nothing at the showroom surprises you.

MaterialInstalled / sq ftTypical kitchen (≈40 sq ft)
Laminate$20–$50$800–$2,000
Solid surface$40–$80$1,600–$3,200
Granite$40–$100$1,600–$4,000
Butcher block$40–$100$1,600–$4,000
Quartz$50–$200$2,000–$8,000
Marble$60–$120$2,400–$4,800
Porcelain / sintered$60–$120$2,400–$4,800
Quartzite$65–$220$2,600–$8,800

What drives the price

  • Material & slab grade – exotic colors and rare veining cost more than standard lines.
  • Edge profile – eased/straight is usually included; ogee, mitered, or full bullnose add ~$5–$60 per linear foot.
  • Cutouts – each sink or cooktop cutout runs ~$100–$300.
  • Removal & disposal of old countertops – about $150–$400.
  • Seams & layout – L- and U-shaped kitchens may need mitered joints and more labor.
  • Waterfall ends & full-height backsplashes – beautiful, but they add slab area and labor.

A note on quotes

Two fabricators can quote the same kitchen very differently depending on slab source, edge work, and schedule. That’s exactly why comparing a couple of local quotes pays off – and why we match you with up to two vetted pros instead of one take-it-or-leave-it estimate.
